Chiara Tornese is the Director of Astute Family Lawyers. Chiara was admitted to legal practice in 2006 and has practiced exclusively in family law for over 15 years. Chiara established Astute Family Lawyers in 2021 to focus on delivering exceptional family and relationship law services to clients from the Banyule community and beyond.

Chiara’s clients benefit from her empathetic, pragmatic and solution-driven approach, and her experience in resolving matters without litigation, where possible and appropriate.  Her focus is on securing outcomes for her clients that will assist them to move forward with assurance and optimism for the future.

Chiara is an experienced and proven advocate.  She has appeared for clients at private mediations, family dispute resolution conferences and at Court events.  Chiara has expertise in all aspects of family law including:

Chiara has a particular interest in preparing and advising clients in relation to Binding Financial Agreements and Binding Child Support Agreements.

Chiara has lived locally in the Banyule area for many years and has many ties to the local community.  Away from the office, Chiara is a long-suffering Essendon supporter. She enjoys cooking for her family and friends and managing her children’s various sporting activities.

Elise Meredith practices exclusively in the areas of Family Law and Intervention Order proceedings and is able to assist in complex matters involving applications for divorce, parenting matters including international relocation matters and property division arising out of the breakdown of marriage and de facto relationships including negotiation, mediation, litigation before the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.

Elise graduated from La Trobe University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Laws, having already completed her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne. Elise was admitted to practice in February 2008.

Elise predominantly practices in family law and has expertise in all areas of family and relationship law including:

  • Applications for Divorce
  • Parenting matters
  • Family Violence and Intervention Order proceedings
  • International parenting disputes
  • Property division arising from the breakdown of marriage and de facto relationships
  • Advice and preparation of Binding Financial Agreements
  • Child Support matters including advice and preparation of Binding Child Support Agreements
  • Maintenance applications (spousal and adult child maintenance)

Having appeared frequently before the Magistrates Court of Victoria earlier in her career in her previous role as a Duty Lawyer in the Intervention Order list, and before the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia for parenting and property matters, Elise is an experienced advocate.  Elise is also skilled at resolving matters by negotiation and agreement outside of Court, including at mediations.

Elise provides her clients with tailored advice in a practical and empathetic manner.  Her client's appreciate her personalised approach and support during their family law matters, and her commitment to securing outcomes that are pragmatic and future focussed. 

Elise also has experience in preparing and advising on Wills and Powers of Attorneys.

Away from the office, Elise enjoys wine and cheese, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
